The alliance between fashion, sports and luxury has never been so strong. The latest example is the NikeLab’s new collaboration with Olivier Rousteing, in which the creative director of Balmain imagines an scene between the runway and the football pitch.
How could it be otherwise, gold stars the collection, following the Olivier Rousteing’s aesthetics of luxury and in an attempt to express the power of football. “I was inspired by winning when I created the collection. Being the champion and what is a champion. I love champions”, the designer has said.

After the success of his capsule collection for H&M, Rousteing has thrown himself into this project with the sports brand. As he said: “Fashion is usually about the catwalk and the glamour, but with Nike it was about performance and the athletes. What I love about this collection is that we are integrating the iconic style of football into sport style”.
NikeLab has described the Rousteing’s work as “a reinvention of the off-pitch look”. In his obsession with the total look, the creative director of Balmain has imagined a collection in which all garments combine among them, doesn’t matter if they are designed for men or women.
NikeLab x Olivier Rousteing: Football Nouveau join the modern sports silhouettes and technical materials of football with gold luxury finishes. Rousteing’s idea was “to bring the gold and the glam in a soccer player’s story“, in a reference to the color of champions.

The choice of Olivier Rousteing to create this collection, which is the second of the Summer of Sport series of NikeLab, has not been casual. The designer, besides being one of the top in fashion industry right now, is a football fan since his childhood. In addition, the launch will be a few days after the start of the UEFA Euro 2016 in France, the origin country of the creative.
The footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, an unconditional follower of Rousteing’s work, is the image of the collection because he shares same aesthetics and taste with the designer. “He is more than a football player, he is an icon and a champion, someone who inspires a lot of people”, Rousteing has confessed about the Portuguese star.

The collection promises to be a sales record, demonstrating the upward trend called athleisure or luxury sportswear from which other great designers like Stella McCartney or Riccardo Tisci are standard-bearers.
