Spring is passing almost unnoticed. Summer will arrive soon, allowing us to start going out, and our wardrobes will be full of winter garments. That’s why it’s best to take advantage of these days to swap out our clothes, sell the items we won’t be using, and invest in new pieces to freshen up our looks.

At Horse, we provide some advice on the top garments favored by insiders and two options for second-hand clothing websites to get rid of items you haven’t used in a while.

Bring out the simplest basics and include oversized garments

Comfort will be the fashion norm for the coming months, but that doesn’t mean we always have to rely on the simplest basics. There are many ways to give a twist to those garments we turn to when we don’t know what to wear or don’t want to complicate things.

Oversized shirts like those proposed by Alberta Ferretti, Stella McCartney, or Lacoste, which opt for these designs to give a new twist to two of the most basic items: the striped shirt or the white blouse. They pair them with straight-cut trousers, asymmetrical skirts, or wide-legged cropped trousers.

This way, we can sell some of our simplest basics and replace them with garments that are still comfortable but a bit more special in terms of their shape, color, or fabric.

Say goodbye to synthetic fabrics and welcome natural fibers

Nylon bags were a must for many of us during this winter. Instead, summer calls for replacing these synthetic fabrics with more natural ones like cotton or linen, which are more breathable and suitable for the climate. One of the most original examples on the runway was Oscar de la Renta, who took this trend to its maximum with a matching raffia dress and bag.

You can include these fabrics in your accessories with raffia bags and sandals, or opt for cotton and linen in dresses, shirts, T-shirts… You can surely dig out many of these items from past seasons, but the key to the wardrobe change would be to get rid of synthetic fabrics and make way for natural ones.

Avoid black and introduce color into your looks

If there’s one thing that filled the spring-summer 2020 runways, it’s color, especially one: yellow. Many designers have opted for monochromatic looks in bright and cheerful tones. This is an easy task with jumpsuits or dresses, although it can also be done with any other type of garments by changing the intensity of the tones.

Other designers have chosen to include color in a more moderate way, mixing it with black, white, or other neutral tones. Undoubtedly, a much more adaptable option for street style and our wardrobe change.

So, what should go out? All-black outfits and, in general, all those black garments that you don’t see easily combining with others in color. What could come in? Those colorful garments you’ve seen and loved. This summer will be the perfect season to make the most of them.

Stay away from excesses and give new jeans a second chance

The spring-summer 2020 runways have been filled with new denim proposals. Celine has been one of the brands that has bet the most on it. In fact, it has based almost all the looks in its show on denim, including straight, flared, flare jeans, skirts, bermudas… And it’s not the only one, the proposals are endless.

What we haven’t seen on the runway are the excesses typical of past collections. No oversized necklaces or excess accessories, no glitters, sequins, or excessively structured garments.

Long jumpsuits in washed denim or tie-dye style like this one from Alberta Ferretti, flared skirts below the knee, wide-legged trousers, and bermudas are the top garments we recommend.

So, fill your wardrobe again with denim garments. Keep the jeans you already have, treat yourself to a new style, and sell all the excesses you bought to replace the jeans you no longer wear.

Take advantage of the wardrobe change and sell the garments you won’t be using

Following trends means leaving aside garments that we won’t be using. With them, we can do many things: store them (fashion is cyclical, they’ll come back), transform them, or sell them. This last option has grown exponentially in recent years, and online options for selling second-hand clothes have emerged to help us in the task.

At Best for Less, you can buy and sell second-hand luxury fashion.

In this article, we’ll talk about two:

The first is Best for Less. Its main objective, according to Carmen Saenz Varona (founder and CEO), is to help clients optimize their wardrobes because extending the life of deserving products is sustainable and profitable. In the near future, they will have a styling service where a stylist will help you make the most of your wardrobe virtually.

The second is Vestiaire Collective. Its co-founders, Sophie Hersan and Fanny Moizart, advocate for common sense, buying less but better, and applying the 1-1 rule in the wardrobe, meaning: make sure to sell something before buying a new garment, and also make sure it’s useful.

Both platforms sell quality and premium garments and advocate for reducing environmental impact and sustainability.

According to Carmen Saez: “Second-hand is the new outlet for fashion”.
