The exciting world of sailing is about to disembark on the picturesque Catalan coast of Vilanova i La Geltrú. From 14 to 17 September 2023, the port becomes the epicentre of the first preliminary regatta of the 37th America’s Cup.

The event promises to be one of the most exciting and hotly contested of the year in the sailing world. With elite teams preparing for glory in the final on Sunday 17 September in the port of Vilanova i La Geltrú. Passion for the sea and sailing combine with the traditional culture of the area, with shows and local gastronomy.

Six teams compete for the Final Duel

During the competition days, three daily races will decide who are the two best teams, and together with them, to the grand final. There are six world-renowned teams facing off in this challenge: the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand; INEOS Britannia, with renowned helmsmen and NYYC American Magic, which has worked on in-house racing.

In addition, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and Alinghi Red Bull Racing, who have shown potential, and the Orient Express Racing Team, a newcomer not to be underestimated. Each of the teams have the best sailors racing at the limit aboard uniquely designed monohulls with AC40 foils (hydrofoils). This will provide a preview of the impressive performance at the upcoming America’s Cup 2024 in Barcelona.

Comfort and excitement from the Race Village

In the centre of the port, the official village of the regatta will open its doors on Thursday 14 September at midday. Meanwhile, the inauguration will be at seven o’clock in the evening, after the training regattas. The village will be the heart of the action and will feature giant screens where the races can be followed live. The area will be equipped with seating, food and drink stalls, and official team merchandising shops. The products of the fish market will also be on display in restaurants such as Els Bessons, L’Hoc, Sa Barra, among others. Meanwhile, the Garraf wineries will be represented at Celler 7 Pams, Puigbatet and La vinya del sastre.

Each of the teams will reveal some of their potential, and what they will be fighting for next year in Barcelona in the next edition of the cup.

The presentations and interviews with the sailors will take place on the main stage, and there will be live musical performances until the evening. On opening day the jazz music will close the start of the competition, following the rest of the days with tunes by La petita Havana, Banda Mestre Montserrat and Inxa BrassBand. In the same way, traditional Catalan culture will also be represented with shows after each regatta. From the castellers and traditional dancers to the comparsas that will entertain sea lovers from Thursday to Sunday. In addition, on the Ribes Roges beach itself, and without having to enter the village, you will also be able to watch the competition on the screens.

From land, the competition can be followed on the screen in the Race Village, and on the Ribes Roges beach, which will have three screens.

On the other hand, those with their own boats will be able to enjoy the competition from the sea, in a special area reserved for them. During the three days of competition, the Race Director will send them information about the positions and the course. The registration for a place at sea is now open, and can be requested on the official website of the 37th America’s Cup.
