Valentino dresses La Traviata characters. It is a revision of the classic of Giuseppe Verdi who features the Italian designer as the producer. The function will feature fifteen performances from May 24th until June 30th at the Roman Opera. 

This exclusive show, created by Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti in colaboration with the Teatro dell’Opera of Roma, will be unique thats to the exquisite team of artists: Valentino will create the main character’s dresses, Sofía Coppola will conduct the opera and the brilliant production and stage design will be by Nathan Crowley.

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, creative directors of the Maison Valentino will design Flora and the chorus clothes, creating in collaboration with the theater workshop. Violeta’s dress will be  exclusively designed by Valentino and handcrafted by the Haute Couture workshop of the Maison.

Valentino is an opera lover and had already set an eye on this one concretely. In January 2014, his Haute Couture collection, showcasted in Paris was inspired in this roman opera  and he wanted to pay tribute to some of the most celebrated works. The music sheet of La Traviata, had been the protagonist of one of his creations, this was embroidered in a long tulle skirt of that collection.

Valentino sees a special project, like a dream come true, since he has always been fascinated by the opera and its power to invent fantastic and modern worlds through music timeless splendor.

In 1994 the designer was in charche of the costume of the opera  in memory of the dead actor Rot recuerdo del actor fallecido Rodolfo Valentino. This was directed by Dominick Argento and represented in the Kennedy Center in Washington.

Music will be provided by the master Cremonese Jader Bignamini, associate director of the Verdi Orchestra of Milan. It also closely involved with the Verdi Festival in Parma. Among the leading voices will be Francesca Dotto and Maria Grazia Schiavo, alternating in the role of Violetta, along with Antonio Poli and Arturo Chacon-Cruz, assuming the role of Alfredo.
