This season will be a season of extremes, at least, as far as shoes are concerned. From combat boots to ballerinas through platforms or moccasins, these are the shoe trends for autumn-winter 2020/2021.
Platforms for walking from heights
2020 is the year of the platforms and the fall-winter season was not going to be left behind. From the clogs, sandals and salons they move to the boots and ankle boots. One of the models that have been most seen on the catwalk have been the Chelsea boots with platform. A classic reinvented.
The Dr. Martens have become a basic. Gone are the days when they were reserved for the most grunge and rock and roll aesthetics. Now, their great followers wear them summer and winter and with any look, even the most casual. In the SS20 season they launched for the first time the platform version of their classic Jadon, the Jadon Max. Now they add the platform version of two more models: the Sinclair Hi Max (easier to take on and off thanks to the front zipper) and theJadon Max Rebel (with maxi eyelets, metal hardware and side zipper).
It’s time for moccasins
Now that we have become accustomed to the comfort of sneakers and flat shoes, trends like this are sure to be a hit for the return to the office. The moccasins give a certain formal air to any look, making them perfect for the workday. On the catwalk we have seen them both in their more classic version and in more daring formulas: a little heel, bright, prints, colors…
At Pretty Ballerinas they opt for the classic loafers, in black suede and with a masculine touch that is broken by the golden chain with the heart detail. Although they are designed for more casual outfits, they can also be the perfect complement to transform an evening look.
Back to the 90’s with combat boots
If in 2019 the stars of winter were the cowboy boots, this season it’s the turn of the combat boots. These boots of military aesthetics were a must in the 90s and now they are back in our closet. They combine with all kinds of garments, especially with dresses, skirts and wide pants. And also with all kinds of styles;
Sneakers are here to stay
The sneakers are still not going anywhere. Designers continue to take them to the catwalk and in the street style they are a imessential. In addition to the classic or wide-soled models we’ve seen in recent years, designers have opted for a more retro-futuristic or vintageinspired style.Marni has been the leading exponent of the latter, with ultra-thin-soled sneakers and a patchwork style print.
In addition, the collaborations between sport fashion brands and big designers continue. One more sign of how integrated sportswear is in the street style. One of the latest launches has been the Stella MacCartney & Adidas.
We reconcile with the merceditas
The merceditas (or mary janes) have been relegated for many years to school shoes. Already in recent years some designers had included them in their collections but this season they come with much more force. And it is a classic shoe, with a feminine essence and infinite possibilities. On the catwalk they are renewed with different textures, feathers, jewel buckles … Perhaps the most prominent are those of Loewe, which chooses to give them some height with kitten heels.
Another trend that won’t go away: thigh-high boots
They are a fall-winter 2020/2021 shoe trend but they were also 2019-2020 and 2018-2020. They style the leg so much and are incredibly versatile, perhaps that’s why they’ve become a winter staple. This season they are somewhat looser, with a wrinkled effect on the leg.
The novelty of this winter are the crumpled mid-calf boots and the eighties spirit with all kinds of metallics or shiny fabrics.
The sweet ballerinas
It’s clear that the fall-winter 2020/2021 shoe trends show a boom in classic aesthetics. Moccasins, moccasins… and ballerinas are set to oust sneakers from the podium of everyday flat shoes. Pretty Ballerinas is one of the flagship brands when it comes to ballerinas. For this winter they propose metallic materials and elegant designs with pointed toe shapes.
It seems that the autumn-winter 2020/2021 shoe trends move in two distinct styles: one more grunge and casual with platforms and military boots as protagonists and another more classic and lady with loafers, mary janes and ballerinas. Very different but not incompatible.
