The Jackie by Gucci or the Flamenco by Loewe are some of the bags that are back on trend this season.
There are bags that set trends even years after they were created. The luxury brands renew the original designs and bring to the market bags inspired by past decades. We take a look at the most iconic bags from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and their new versions for this season.
Jackie 1961 by Gucci
Who doesn’t know the iconic Jackie by Gucci? The bag created in 1961, was the favourite accessory of the first lady of the United States, Jackie Kennedy (who wore it so much that the brand chose to name it after her).
Under the mandate of creative director Alessandro Michele, Gucci presents the Beloved line. Among the Beloved bags are the Bamboo 1947, the Horsebit 1955 and of course the Jackie 1961, among others. Michele’s intention is to represent the firm’s tradition with contemporary details, in various sizes, colours and materials. It seems that the Jackie 1961 is back to stay and has become an ideal accessory due to its versatility and dimensions.
Loewe Flamenco
The classic Flamenco bag launched in 1984 is back for this spring-summer season. We have seen it on the catwalks in a wide range of colours such as red, lavender or purple. This bag mixes the traditional with the new and there are bags for all tastes and colours. The clutch comes in a new material: mohair and calfskin. Of course, it has its original version in nappa leather and in different sizes, from mini to XL. Easily recognisable, the Flamenco bag has an adjustable and removable shoulder strap that allows you to carry it over the shoulder, cross-body or by hand, making it perfect for any occasion.
Re-Edition 1995 Prada
It was first presented in the autumn-winter 1995 collection, and now returns with a more precise design and a clean silhouette. Prada’s Re-Edition 1995 has an elegant geometric shape and is minimalist and sophisticated. It is a most functional bag thanks to the simplicity of the shape and the practicality of the details. It is made in red, black or white leather. On the outside it bears the distinctive Prada stamp and a key ring that identifies the bag as a reissue. The revamped 1995 design continues Prada’s heritage of timeless modern luxury.
Baguette by Fendi
Fendi’s most iconic bag, the Baguette is a must-have in all the collections of Kim Jones, the house’s creative director. Silvia Venturi Fendi’s creation in 1997 became one of the most significant and popular accessories of the decade. We’ve all wanted to have Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe and carry a Baguette bag on the streets of New York. With a more rigid structure than the original, and a myriad of colours and prints, today the Baguette is still a must-have for any fashion lover.
Edith by Chloé
The Edith de Chloé model recaptures the brand’s original style with its casual charm and reflection of the brand’s leather craftsmanship. Although created in 2006 by Phoebe Philo, it has a clear influence of 70s fashion. The versions we’ve seen on the catwalk include new embellishments such as fringes or strings on the sidess. Made from buffalo leather, the Edith bag comes in different prints, sizes and styles.
