Want a change of look? Here are some ideas of the haircuts we’ve seen on the catwalks: short hair, mid-lengths and XL are the stars;
When choosing the perfect haircut for a change of look we must take into account the features of our face, to highlight our best features. Stylists Ismael De Felipe and David Lesur give us the best recommendations to find the trendy cut that best suits your face type. .
Choppy and Shaggy: from the ’90s to the present day
Fashions emerge, reinvent themselves, move, but never disappear, this is the case of two hairstyles that were a trend in the nineties and are making a strong comeback for 2023, the choppy cut and the shaggy which stand out for their fresh and relaxed style.
According to stylist David Lesur “The ideal chop would be shoulder-length hair, closely cropped and parted around the contours of the face. The great hairstyle would be straight or wavy. As for the shaggy, it lives up to what it means, basically tousled, tousled or tangled, a cut that would be the shorter version of the choppy, a half bob at jaw level or where the neck begins. It’s ideal for people with fine hair and thin or narrow faces.”
Layered bob, Mullet and Clavicut: versatile and asymmetrical cuts
According to Ismael de Felipe the “Layered bob is a layered cut with an unstructured look inspired by the 30s and the aesthetic of Louise Brooks, who favours thin and oval faces, but less in those that are round or with a wide neckline. The long version will be on trend in 2023, with hair a little below the shoulders and longer layers. Also back on trend are the mullet and clavicut, two highly versatile and asymmetric cuts for which it’s important to start with a good mane to work with.”.
Pixie, Mixie and Bixie: Parisian-inspired styles adaptable to your face type
From the iconic Audrey Hepburn, to Demi Moore have been some of the celebrities who have worn the acclaimed pixie style, which also has two new versions, the mixie and the bixie, these styles have been trending in past years and will continue to be so in 2023. These cuts have a Parisian-inspired style that can also be presented in versions such as: cape, curly or tousled. They are all very practical and flattering options.
Stylist David Lesur of salons David Künzle, explains that “the pixie is chameleon-like, its adaptability is incredible, perfect on all types of faces although much better on women with long necks and short stature, or round faces if you have volume at the back. It is advisable to adapt the pixie to our features: for round faces, some volume at the top and some thin strands at the tip. If it’s square, hair around the jaw to soften those angles. And if it’s elongated, a longer fringe to minimise that length.”
As for the mixie, it is still an evolution of the pixie from such a bold and radical cut as the mullet. Or the bixie, another evolution, but in this case, of the short hair of the 90s, adaptable to all types of hair textures and styles, always depending on the layers, lengths and hairstyles. In this case, its maintenance is less than in a pixie, and cuts can be spaced a little further apart.
XL Manes: straight, frizzy with and without fringes
For 2023 long hair is back on trend in its various versions, both the dynamic long layered, with long layers that add dimension and movement, characteristic of actress Lily Collins in the Emily in Paris series, Emily in Paris or the straight bob with a middle parting, characteristic of model Naomi Campbell, but for a fresh and sophisticated look another option would be with dressed fringed bangs.
The mythical curls ochenteros
The ’80s curl trend is back to stay, a trend that marked a whole generation where voluminous, flexible and bouncy hair was the boom. One of the trendy cuts for curly hair is the Morrison cut, David Lesur of David Künzle salons defines it as a cut “Ideal for curly and wavy hair thanks to its clearly defined rounded shapes in which the importance of a long fringe that frames the face with the curls stands out. This medium length favours elongated and oval faces, as it provides lateral volume, thus compensating for the volumes”.
2023 brings a large repertoire of trends for you to choose from to suit your style and facial features.
