To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the calendar, TASCHEN has had unlimited access to the archives with the aim of presenting a large limited collector’s edition in which all the calendars are reproduced in full, with photographs by Richard Avedon, Peter Beard, Patrick Demarchelier, Nick Knight, Karl Lagerfeld, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Annie Leibovitz, Peter Lindbergh, Sarah Moon, Helmut Newton, Uwe Ommer, Mario Testino and many others.
It also includes unpublished or rarely published images of the filming, the 1963 calendar that never saw the light of day and a series of images “censored” by the editors of the time because they were considered too daring. The reader will also be able to admire the famous Helmut Newton calendar from 1986. It includes an introduction signed by Philippe Daverio and an interview with artistic directors Derek Forsyth and Martyn Walsh.
Limited collector’s edition of 1,000 copies RRP €1,500
When the well-known and exclusive Pirelli calendar was first published in 1964, it caused a sensation in the marketing world: suddenly, a familiar throwaway concept (the “garage calendars” with scantily clad girls) was adorned with the main fashion models photographed by prominent photographers in the most beautiful settings in the world.
Reserved for clients and VIPs, a legend has been created around the calendar, strengthened by the appearance in its pages of women as beautiful as Alessandra Ambrosio, Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Penélope Cruz, Heidi Klum, Angela Lindvall , Sophia Loren and Kate Moss.
Author: Philippe Daverio born in 1949, writer, dealer and art historian. Currently, he is director of the Milan Cathedral Museum. He has opened four modern art galleries and has written for numerous publications such as Vogue, People, Panorama and Liberal.
