Little by little we are getting closer to the so-called “new normal”. We at Horse are also going to do our best to make it happen, and that’s why we want to talk about the really spectacular museums that you should make a note of when you can visit them, as most of them will be opening at the end of June.

These are innovative institutions in different parts of the world with a variety of themes, but with one thing in common: the buildings that house them are a work of art in themselves.

They are museums whose architecture alone is worth seeing. However, once you have reached them, you have to go inside to discover their contents. We are going to do it, even if for the moment it is only virtually.

Atelier Audermars Piguet Museum, watchmaking precision

The first of the museums we would like to introduce you to is created by the Audermars Piguet brand , which has been making its coveted watches in the Swiss Joux Valley since 1875. And there, in the town of Le Brassus, it has decided to build a museum about them. And for this, they commissioned the project to one of the most innovative architectural firms of recent times: Bjarke Ingels’ BIG studio. The proposal on paper was extremely complicated, but is there anything more complicated than a Swiss watch of absolute precision?

It is a double-spiral construction, the exterior of which is covered with grass. And its interior is reminiscent of this continuous circle, which of course can be visited in a clockwise direction. After all, on this tour you will discover up to 300 different watches made by this brand. Watches that are true works of art and which will find one of their great museums here. When will it be possible to visit it? They hope to open its doors in June.

HEM, one of the new Chinese museums

The prestigious Japanese architect Tadao Ando, winner of the Pritzker Prize and whom we have already told you about here, has been in charge of designing the beautiful building that houses the HEM or He Art Museum. The Chinese spelling of He can be translated as harmony, and the fact is that this museum, its container and its content, invites us to have an experience based on the harmonious and enriching discovery of Chinese culture and art, whether modern or ancient.

Where can we live this oriental experience? In Foshan, in the Chinese province of Guangdong. When? The opening was scheduled for 21 March. But for the moment it has been postponed and there is no concrete date. We hope it will be as soon as possible.

Munch Museum, the home of the great Norwegian painter

The Spanish team of Estudio Herreros, with Juan Herreros himself at the head, has realised the project of a cultural institution of the first order in Norway. No more and no less than the Munch Museum in Oslo. The best place in the world to see the work of this painter, so highly valued today and so tormented in his time.

The Munch Museum already has a long history, it is a reference point for heritage and also for tourism in this Scandinavian country. But it will be in 2020 when it enters the 21st century with this spectacular remodelling, in which a new concrete iceberg has been added to the Oslo skyline. But it is not an icy iceberg; inside it has all the warmth of culture and art.

Museum of the Future in Dubai

By this time this year, we already know that the Dubai 2020 Expo has been moved to next year because of the pandemic. And one of the events that was to accompany that event was to be the opening of the new Museum of the Future in the Emirate city. However, that opening has also been postponed, although it has not been made clear whether it will coincide with the Expo or whether it will be held before. We will certainly let you know in due course!

What we can tell you for the moment is that this Museum of the Future certainly doesn’t deceive with its name. It will be the first to be built using 3D technology with a 6.1 metre high printer. A project that has already received a multitude of awards before being completely built and that for the architects Killa Desing and consultants such as BuroHappold Engineering is a real work of research to break new ground.

Artizon Museum, one of the best museums in Tokyo

The Artizon Museum is undoubtedly one of the most exciting museums in the Japanese capital. Inside there are several thousand artistic objects of the most varied origins and from all periods. From ancient Greek art to modern Japanese paintings, including works by Renoir, Jackson Pollock, Picasso and Aoki Shigueru.

Artizon Museum to open in 2020

This collection has been on display since 1952, but it is now that the Japanese studio Tonerico INC has completely redesigned the museum. A site located in the very heart of Tokyo, which blends perfectly into the urban landscape and offers a visit that is both intimate and open at the same time. It will be a space for art and also for experimenting and supporting creativity.

Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum, is among the most desired museums

Forecasts at the beginning of 2020 indicated that the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo would open its doors by the end of the year. However, like so many other things in our lives, the exact date is not yet definite. What is clear is that this is one of the most desirable museums in the world.

Let’s hope that it will be possible to visit it in 2020, as well as the other museums that we present to you. For our part, we will keep you informed of these and many other much-anticipated reopenings in the coming months.
