It’s March 2020 and although the world of trade fairs and major events is in a bit of a state of flux due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus and the fear that accompanies it, there are still events to enjoy. And here we have made a selection of our highlights for March.

Latin artist Zilia Sánchez in New York

Exhibitions in the Big Apple are a regular feature in our highlights, but we had never brought up the interesting Museo del Barrio dedicated to Latin American and Caribbean artists. So the exhibition by artist Zilia Sánchez is a fabulous opportunity to discover it. You have until 22 March 2020, as her exhibition Soy Isla has been on show since last November.

Zilia Sánchez was born in 1926 in Havana, but now lives in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. There she developed a wide-ranging oeuvre that includes sculpture, painting, illustrations, shaped canvases and much more. All this is echoed in this first major retrospective at the Museo del Barrio in New York.

A catharsis in the Serpentine Galleries

The Serpentine Galleries in London are also among our regular recommendations given the interesting artistic initiatives it promotes. A magnificent example is the Catharsis that the Danish artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen has prepared. An audiovisual project that has been on show since 14 January and will run until 15 March 2020.

Images for authentic catharsis

The grounds designed by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid in front of Kensington Gardens become the perfect outdoor setting for this immersive proposal that transports us through sounds, 3D textures and images to distant and ancient forests to invite us to reflect on the necessary care of our planet.

Chus Burés, master goldsmith

With this title, Chus Burés, master goldsmith the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid wants to honour the work of this craftsman and artist who has spent three decades literally creating jewelry. The exhibition opened on 7 February and will remain open until 29 March 2020.

This exhibition is part of the IV Muestra de Orfebrería Contemporánea. Although the interest of this proposal does not lie solely in contemplating the pieces he has made over the years in all the cities where he has worked, from his native Barcelona to New York, via Paris and Barcelona, the interest lies in getting to know his entire creative, personal and professional universe. The interest lies in getting to know his entire creative, personal and professional universe. Fascinating!

We are going to the Guggenheim Bilbao this March 2020

In fact, a visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is always recommended. But now and until 21 June even more so, as the exhibition Olafur Eliasson: In Real Life is on show. In other words, it is the opportunity to discover the work of one of the most highly valued artists of our time, taking a journey through 30 pieces made over the last 30 years.

Setting up the Eliasson exhibition at the Guggenheim in Bilbao

For this creator everything can be susceptible of becoming an artistic material, from metals to the ice of a glacier or the moss of the forest. Everything has the capacity to offer us sensations and a physical experience. The viewer’s perception is an indispensable part of Eliasson’s art in order for it to make sense. So let us participate in his work by visiting this exhibition organised between the Guggenheim and the Tate Modern in London.

Dalí and Gaudí illuminate the Quarries of Lights

Every year the visual, artistic and touristic proposal proposed by the Carrieres de Lumieres tries to surpass itself. This is what we report in the Horse highlights year after year. On this occasion, however, it would be unforgivable not to talk about it. After all, this 6 March 2020 will see the opening of two shows inspired by the work of two Spanish artists: Salvador Dalí and Antoni Gaudí.

Dali in the Quarries of Lights

The montages are Dalí, the endless enigma, which proposes “a journey out of time that awakens the unconscious”. While the other audiovisual is entitled: Gaudí, architect of the imaginary, and is a tribute to this architectural genius. Travel to Les Carrieres des Lumieres in the town of Les Baux de Provence. You have until 3 January next year.

Night fever in Brussels museums

In this case we are referring to a positive fever, a good cultural symptom that consists of the fact that up to 31 museums and exhibition spaces in the Belgian capital are going to open their doors on 14 March 2020 at a surprising time in these latitudes of Europe. No more and no less than from 7pm to 1am.

Culture stays up late in Brussels

The museums that will open have the most varied themes, from art to gastronomy or the world of motorsport. And they are not content with just opening their doors for night owls. They have also prepared a wide range of activities and events for the enjoyment of the public, from rap concerts to screenings, dance performances, artistic perfomances and peculiar guided tours.

Art Dubai, to end March 2020

In our highlights of this month that marks the end of winter or the beginning of spring, depending on how you look at it, other art fairs usually appear, such as Art Basel HK, but the truth is that the dreaded coronavirus has closed this event and many others. But that doesn’t mean that art buyers have nowhere to go. And one of the best on a planetary level is Art Dubai, which will take place at the Madinat Jumeirah Conference & Events Centre between 25 and 28 March 2020.

Every year Art Dubai gains importance

This art fair is becoming more and more prestigious and high quality, and possibly even more so in this edition. And this year is going to be very important for Dubai, as the Dubai 2020 World Expo will be held here in the coming months. An event that we hope to report on at Horse, as its celebration will undoubtedly be a good sign that the current panorama has improved.
