Entering January 2020 not only means changing the year, we are changing the decade. How time flies! Very, very fast. That’s why we have to make the most of it, live it with intensity and enrich ourselves with the many good things that surround us and that we are capable of generating. And we include among those wonderful things the highlights that we will continue to prepare with care every month. Here are the ones for the new year.

Luxury, calm and voluptuousness in Seville

We begin our proposals with an exhibition for which you have very little time left to see it. The Erwin Blumenfeld: Luxury, calm and voluptuousness will close on 10 January 2020. These images have been on display at the CISCUS in Seville since 17 October.

One of the images in Seville of this pioneer of fashion photography

So hurry up to see this selection of this true pioneer of fashion photography who has worked for the best publications: Cosmpolitan, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar… And before his camera posed the most beautiful men and women of the 20th century. To see for yourself, you only have to look at this exhibition, as delicate as it is attractive.

An exhibition to see and think about

The Serpentines Galleries have already been featured on more than one occasion in Horse Magazine. Now they are back in our highlights for January 2020 with a really ambitious proposal. The exhibition On Venus by Patrick Staff opened on 8 November and will be on show until 9 February.

Impressive installation by Patrick Staff in London’s Serpentine Galleries

We are talking about an exhibition that is not suitable for all audiences and may offend the sensibilities of anyone. After all, the creator proposes images, videos and even an architectural intervention that speak to us of structural violence. And to do so he resorts to evoking the corrosion of acid, industrial agriculture, blood,… a risky, apocalyptic and thought-provoking proposal.

Photos taken with the legendary Leica

This famous camera brand has several official shops around the world. These are the Leica Stores where you can not only buy these exquisite machines. They also organise various events and exhibitions. It will surely appear again in future highlights, but for January 2020 we would like to recommend the exhibition Creazione Visibili by Emanuele Scorcelleti at the Leica Gallery in Frankfurt, Germany.

Horses are a reference in Scorcelletti’s art

Until 1 February you have time to admire the work of this prestigious photographer with multiple awards behind him. Many of them thanks to his journalistic work. However, beyond his commissions, his more personal images, where horses usually appear, are particularly interesting. And in a magazine like Horse we had to echo this.

The European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona

Among the wide range of museums on offer in Barcelona, there are some very valuable spaces that are sometimes overshadowed by the more famous museums. Surely an obvious case is the MEAM, the European Museum of Modern Art, which is also tremendously active in its proposals. And an example of this is that the 14th International ARC Salon, whose prizes are awarded every year by the foundation Art Renewal Center, was held there on the 6th of December.

The MEAM, a gem not too well known in Barcelona

This non-profit group promotes artistic renewal through figurative creations, and each year awards its prizes to the best artists in this field. All the prize-winners in this edition can be seen in the exhibition that the MEAM will have open until 30 January 2020. If anyone cannot see it, this same exhibition will travel to Sotheby’s headquarters in New York in July.

More photos for these January 2020 highlights

With a title like The Nature of Things the photos by Chema Madoz could not have a better setting than the two exhibition halls of the Villanueva Pavilion of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid. He “planted” them there on 14 December and they can be enjoyed there until 1 March 2020.

Geometry always present in Madoz’s works

The fact is that the photographer has compiled some of his images with the strongest links to nature, bringing together more than 60 photos in which there are vegetable, mineral and animal elements, but also his games of geometry, surrealism and the poetic atmosphere that characterises his work. Photography lovers should not miss it, and those who are less passionate about photography will discover a special creator.

And we return to Barcelona

The second of the highlights of January 2020 in the Catalan capital. Now in another Barcelona museum, the MACBA. And with an exhibition quite different from the figurative art we mentioned earlier. It is the turn of Takis, a Greek artist whose brushes are non-visible energies such as electricity or the magnetic.

Takis, when energy becomes art

This exhibition opened at MACBA on 22 November and will remain there until 19 April. Several months in which invisible forces will flow through the halls of the museum, creating poetics, music, movement and hallucinatory attractions. A unique artist who for the first time has a solo exhibition in Barcelona.

FITUR also in January 2020

We finish with the journey of journeys: the International Tourism Fair that will take place at the IFEMA exhibition centre in Madrid from 22 to 26 January 2020. If you don’t know where to travel, this is the first place to go, as the whole world will be on show before your eyes. And for those who have already decided on their next destination, at FITUR you will find first-hand information.

Because as we said at the beginning, we have to make the most of our time. Eliminate all the noise that surrounds us, and stay only with what interests and attracts us. And for this, travelling is an essential, enriching, inspiring and pleasurable tool. These are the principles that guide our selection of proposals, which we will continue to prepare over the next year. HAPPY 2020!
