What awaits us with this selection of April highlights? Well, as always, lots of art, elegance and design. A bouquet of the most interesting proposals that help to make spring even brighter.
Extension of the exhibition The female seams of Spanish fashion.
When the exhibition The female seams of Spanish fashion opened on 23 April at the National Museum of Decorative Arts, it was not expected to be so well received by the public. It could have gone unnoticed among the events of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid. And yet it was and is a great success.
So much so that it has been extended until 28 April. So whoever is in Madrid or travelling to the capital should take the opportunity to see this exhibition conceived by the Asociación de Creadores de Moda and the EFE agency. A fantastic opportunity to see the alliance between fashion, women and photojournalism over the last few decades.
Joan Miró at the MoMA in New York
Now the April highlights take us to another exhibition, but on the other side of the pond, at MoMA in New York. There, an exhibition of works by Joan Miró opened on 24 February. An exhibition entitled Birth of the World, the Birth of the World, one of his most representative early works of the modernity and genius that this Catalan artist was to represent.
Most of the works in this exhibition are owned by MoMA itself, but other loans from around the world have been added. The result is a collection of some 60 works produced between the 1920s and the 1950s, the key decades for understanding Miró’s innovation. These are the key decades for understanding Miró’s innovation. When can you see it? Until 15 June.
Van Gogh’s name returns in April highlights
Vincent Van Gogh is a recurring feature in this section of Horse. In the April 2019 highlights it will appear twice, as we will see later on. For now, we have to talk about the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the best place to get to know his work. We mention it here to invite you to the temporary exhibition The Experiments of Camille Pissarro.
The exhibition of this Impressionist artist opened in March and will remain open to the public until 26 May. It is an opportunity to discover a facet of Pissarro that is not very well known. His work as an engraver and the many experiments he carried out in this artistic discipline, in which he investigated different types of prints.
And now Van Gogh in Barcelona
As promised, Van Gogh’s name appears for the second time in the April highlights. But now it is the works of the Dutch painter himself that are the protagonists. Or perhaps not so much, as the Meet Van Gogh exhibition makes the visitors the real protagonists, as it is an interactive exhibition that immerses us in the life of this creator as cursed as he is brilliant.
On 14 March this exhibition arrived at Barcelona’s Port Vell. And from that moment until 2 June it is one of the most important cultural events of the year in Barcelona. An immersive montage in which visitors will be able to experience the sensations and thoughts of this artist in different key scenarios of his pictorial production.
The Salone del Mobile in Milan, a regular highlight in April
The Milan furniture fair is once again among our proposals for the beginning of spring. All the professionals of the sector have marked this event of the highest European level and that in its entirety extends in 2019 from 22 March to 14 April. A exhibition programme of the most intense that you can check on its website.
However, the big week of the fair runs from 9 to 14 April. Then the capital of Lombardy fills up with thousands and thousands of visitors of this furniture industry. If this is your case, there is little we can tell you that you don’t already know. And if you are simply passionate about decoration and furniture, you should get to know this event in person. The ideal occasion to get to know the latest of the latest.
Coachella, Horse’s most beloved festival
As with the previous proposal, the Coachella festival in California is also a classic among our April highlights. A festival that is more than just music. It’s true that there are big stars of the stage, but there are also plenty of celebrities in the audience who give us a taste of what to wear with the arrival of the heat.
All these figures this year will have the opportunity to enjoy a very varied line-up that will take place over two weekends between the 12th and 14th of April, and the 19th and 21st of the same month. A line-up with an ever-increasing Latin presence, and this year’s edition features the Hispanic star of the moment: Rosalía.
Participate in prestigious art competition in Taiwan
We want to conclude our April highlights with a different proposal. An artistic competition. It is not about attending as a spectator, but about participating in it. It is the competition promoted since 2002 by the Cultural Affairs Office of Taichung, Taiwan. A very exotic proposal, no doubt, but also a very succulent one, as it has a magnificent prize fund, as well as being a great opening to the Asian market.
If you consider yourself an artist, why not participate? Check the rules here and find out until which date in April you can submit your creations. You never know what the future may bring.
At Horse Magazine we want to end these spring highlights of April with that encouragement to participate, in short, to enjoy life.
