The ice and white sights of Antarctica open the next winter season, with the new ship Silver Endeavour sailing 12 immersive voyages between 21 November and March 2023.

By the end of November, the new naval acquisition will take over from the Silver Explorer, the new ship that  has been designed with high technology and is specially prepared to enter polar regions. In this way, travellers will be able to reach more remote destinations and, thanks to the kayaks and boats, they will be able to experience the reality that surrounds them more closely. Roberto Martinoli, president and CEO of Silversea Cruises, sees these voyages as the beginning of a new era in luxury cruising.

Travellers exploring, learning and sharing

Silver Endeavour will travel 12 times from 21 November 2022 to 14 March 2023, sometimes departing from Puerto Williams, Chilean territory. And on other occasions, from King George Island,Antarctic zone. The expeditions are catalogued in three different itineraries, depending on the number of days of the trip, whose objective is always the same: learn and discover.

“To honour the spirit of expedition voyages, we have renamed the Silver Endeavour, bearing witness to one of the most famous ships in history,” says Barbara Muckermann, Chief Commercial Officer, Silversea Cruises.

Once on board, travellers can enjoy the activities offered by the expedition. On the one hand, the extensive facilities with lounges, spa, swimming pool, or even the indoor and outdoor observation area, to enjoy the views. There will be areas for talks with experts to share and learn about the territory being explored. On the other hand, the ship is equipped with kayaks and Zodiacs, which will be used for excursions and guides will accompany guests during the adventures. Everything is prepared, with the best parkas, to combat the cold of the white continent. Barbara Muckermann declares:.

“On board the Silver Endeavour, travellers will experience the same sense of discovery that guided pioneering explorers, such as James Cook, in times gone by”.

The dinghy allows travellers to get closer to terrain that is more difficult to access.

  • The first route, from King George Island, will take 5 to 9 days around the Antarctic Peninsula exploring destinations such as the Antarctic Sound and the South Shetland Islands. Conrad Combrink, Silversea’s Senior Vice President of Expeditions, will be part of the inaugural voyage. A total of 10 voyages will depart on this maiden voyage.

To further personalise the experience, 20 expedition experts such as marine biologists, historians, archaeologists and naturalists, among others, will share their expertise with guests on each voyage aboard Silversea.

  • The second 20-day expedition will depart from Port Williams on 12 February 2023 to the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Sound and the Antarctic Peninsula to cross the 69th Parallel. Passengers will witness the rare wildlife and unique landscapes of this continent.
  • Meanwhile, the third 10-day itinerary, departing from Port Williams on 4 March 2023. During 6 days you will be able to explore the northern white continent and observe colonies of penguins, seals and other bird and marine life.

In a calm and safe manner, travellers observe the animals in their own habitat. Capturing the images through photographs from just a few metres away, the trip becomes a unique experience.

Thanks to the group tours, the fauna of the area can be seen. Among them are the different types of penguins such as the King or the Adelia. The crabeater seals, Weddell seals or leopard seals are found in their natural habitat. On the Antarctic Peninsula, a diversity of birds can also be seen; the snow petrel or the Antarctic pigeon. The former is one of the few birds that nest exclusively on the continent, preferring the cliffs to do so. In addition, exploring with the remote operating vehicle will create a curiosity to discover what lies beneath the ocean.

More sustainable sailing on Silver Endeavour

Always seeking the safety and well-being of passengers and the natural environment, the company works to maintain the environment, following sustainable standards. They achieve all this with the technological innovations they introduce on their ships. They reduce the use of plastic, completely eliminating the use of packaging and objects. They also minimise emissions and reduce fuel consumption. For the latter, they have two Azipod D electric propulsion units. And thanks to this, they manage to reduce consumption by 20% per installed unit, reinforcing sustainability.
