With the holidays just around the corner we need to find the infallible outfit. Dressing up for the occasion means looks with glitter and sequins that you must know how to combine.
Fashions come and go, and one trend that is making a comeback is shiny pieces. Whether it’s appliqués, fabrics or sequins, metallic and shiny garments – which we got back from the 60s and 70s – are all the rage. After the Fashion Week shows, a spring-summer 2023 full of this trend is predicted.Sequins, lurex and metallic fabrics have flooded the catwalks and the streets, and are a total hit during the Christmas season.
For these dates full of celebrations, dinners and cocktails, a good glitter look can not miss. At this point, either you already have the perfect outfit or you’re going around the closet – and stores – to find the outfit with which you feel comfortable. As is tradition, for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve there is nothing better than a look full of strength, glamor and, of course, glitter. Combining this trend is not always an easy task, so we present the best outfits to welcome the new year.
Sequins
When we talk about glitter and party, the first thing that comes to mind are sequins. A sequined look will catch looks but it’s important not to overdo it. They always say that less is more, and with this trend it bears repeating. Incorporate a sequin garment and create an outfit based on it, trying to combine textures and colors so it doesn’t look too overdone.
Here are some ideas that can inspire you: a full outfit in a color like black or brown, combining a sequined garment like a T-shirt or a long skirt. You can also include a bit of color like Paco Rabanne’s pink pants and complete the look with a knitted garment.
If on the other hand you have decided that you want to wear a dress and you dare with anything, the proposals of Gucci, Valentino and Altuzarra will not leave anyone indifferent. These dresses are the key piece of the outfit and it is not necessary to overload it with many jewels. Just add a pair of heels or a platform sandal.
Lúrex
The lurex is back stronger than ever in all types of garments. This synthetic fabric stands out for being elastic and for its aluminum thread that gives it shine. It has become the must-have of the year and a must-have for this holiday season. Brands such as Prada or Louis Vuitton have already opted to introduce this fabric to their garments. Lurex is an ideal alternative for those who are not fans of a super shiny sequin or rhinestones. This knitted fabric has a touch of subtle and discreet shine with which to elevate your looks for this Christmas.
The safe bet and the easiest option to combine is a dress or a total look of lurex. You can combine it in a more casual way with a low heel or a loafer or if you want a more formal outfit add some good heels..
A variation of the classic lurex is the combination of tweed with the aluminum threads of the fabric, creating a fabric with the openwork and elastic texture of tweed and the shine and sparkle of lurex. There is a wide variety of garments with this fabric, such as skirts, dresses or tops. Combine it with a piece of another texture, such as a silk shirt, to create a contrast or put together two garments of brilli brilli for a maximalist look. Add some high-top boots or triangle-toe heels and you’re ready to party.
Lamé
Another of the star fabrics for this season is lamé. Similar to lurex, lamé is a woven or knitted fabric with thin ribbons of metallic fiber and is commonly used for ball gowns and evening dresses. It has a slightly more luxurious finish than lurex and can be found in different shapes and textures, such as pleated or plain.
A full suit in lamé is a sophisticated and daring option, such as the one presented by Lola Casademunt in a brown tone with golden sparkles, or the one by Gucci with vertical stripes in green, gold and black. The dresses can not miss for these dates and there are all shapes and colors. Just adding a pair of heeled sandals and a clutch style bag will be enough to get a look that will attract attention.
If a lamé total look seems too much you can always choose to introduce that touch of shine with a garment. For example, the navy blue and fuchsia pink Chanel top can be combined with a suit pants or a long skirt.
So much for our recommendations for combining sequins, lurex and lamé. What is your favorite glitter?
