Sustainable communities are something that, year by year, are growing, as it is the only way to protect our environment. In the world of decoration we find big and small with the same objective, and the Alicante carpet company, Rols Carpets, is one of them.

Rols Carpets began its history in 1917 in Crevillent when Francisco Gómez bought a hand loom to weave natural fibers. After four generations, the company continues its legacy by uniting the traditional values of the house with the avant-garde. In addition, they are fully committed to designing high-quality made-to-measure carpets, promoting sustainability.

Sustainable and social commitment is rewarded

Today, the Alicante-based company has managed to become the first European carpet company to obtain BCorp certification. This certification is recognized for its standards in areas such as social and environmental performance, transparency and corporate responsibility. In addition, to achieve it, companies are evaluated taking into account their positioning with customers, workers, environment, community and governance. Rols Carpets has been working for years to create the best methods and work to finally be recognised, highlighting social responsibility and environmental well-being.

At Rols Carpets, you’ll find 46 different collections of carpets and rugs, with options to choose their composition between wool and recycled materials. Additionally, customers can opt for outdoor carpets, solid-colored ones, or those with an elegant sisal appearance. Furthermore, all of them are made to measure, as they don’t stock any specific sizes and allow the customer to decide the measurement according to their tastes or specific needs. The company states that they have always woven wool carpets, a sustainable fiber, and in recent years, they have been introducing recycled fibers from pre and post-consumer plastic waste.

Sustainable energy before, during and after weaving

On the road to increasingly sustainable production, in the last 4 years, Rols Carpets has achieved 84% of its production from sustainable natural fibers or recycled plastics. In 2019, their sustainable and recycled materials reached 55%, and year on year they have been growing to finish 2023 with 67%. Rols’ ambition goes beyond these numbers, as they aim to use 100% domestically sourced wool by 2028.

Terra Sahara and Terra Kalahari. Made with recycled PET fibers, highly resistant to wear and suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

In addition, by 2028, they expect to achieve carbon footprint neutrality, increase the use of recycled synthetic fibers, and innovate in the creation of single-component carpets. On the other hand, they are committed to weaving carpets that are easily recyclable and reusable to foster a circular production. Additionally, they also excel in connecting with local suppliers, who provide them with more than 50% of raw materials.

Sustainability doesn’t stop at just the fabrics they use for weaving, as since early 2019, the factory has been operating on photovoltaic energy by using solar panels installed on the roofs of the

warehouses. With these changes, they aim to be completely self-sufficient in the coming years. Furthermore, they believe that if they are committed to weaving sustainable carpets, the packaging and wrapping should also be sustainable. To achieve this, they increasingly strive to eliminate plastic, replacing it with wood for the spools of thread or recycled cardboard boxes for packaging.

In addition, the latest carpet collection, Strata, has been awarded the international design awards IF DESIGN and Red Dot: Best of the Best.
