After a long time without a creative director, Pharrell Williams takes over at the helm of Louis Vuitton Men.
It’s official. After many rumours, the Louis Vuitton Menswear line has a successor. Formerly headed by Virgil Abloh until his death in November 2021, the brand had been without a creative director for more than a year. Until now. The singer and music producer Pharrell Williams has become the new designer at the helm of the maison. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be presented this June during Paris Fashion Week.
Louis Vuitton defines Williams as a visionary whose creative universe expands from music to art to fashion. The way he breaks boundaries across the different worlds he explores aligns perfectly with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Maison Culturelle, reinforcing its values, its innovation and its pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit.
Pharrell’s relationship with Louis Vuitton dates back to 2004, with the launch in collaboration of the Millionare sunglasses line. Later, in 2008, Williams designed a jewellery collection under the name Blason with the French brand. The singer’s links with fashion have always been latent: “I’m delighted to welcome Pharrell back home. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly take Louis Vuitton into a new and very exciting chapter,” comments Pietro Beccari, President and CEO of Louis Vuitton.
Williams’ appointment puts an end to one of the great unknowns in the luxury sector, after fifteen months without a creative director at the helm of Louis Vuitton Men. Virgil Abloh was Williams’ predecessor at the French house for 4 years and was also the founder of his own luxury streetwear label Off-White.
And speaking of renewals, after the departure of Alessandro Michele at Gucci, the Italian house also appointed its new creative director, Sabato de Sarno.
