Barcelona wakes up to the appointment of Paradiso as the best cocktail bar in the world. Conquering the first place in The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022 sponsored by Perrier. It is the first cocktail bar to obtain it outside London and New York. Of the 26 participating cities, 14 have collaborated for the first time;
After 13 years celebrating the awards ceremony, for this new edition, Barcelona was chosen as the venue for the awards. And for the first time outside London, the award went to a Catalan cocktail bar. Paradiso has been on the list for years as one of the best places, and after finishing last year in third place, this year it deserved the top spot. To enter and enjoy the cocktail bar, you must first find out where to enter, as they have designed it perfectly to recreate its clandestinity.
In the El Born neighbourhood, the entrance is just behind an old fridge. It’s a creative idea and a lot of fun for visitors who enter it. But, despite the modest entrance, once inside, all that disappears, welcoming visitors with an exquisite atmosphere. A large front bar, accompanied by glass lamps and a curved wooden ceiling, something very characteristic of Gaudí. The detail and delicacy when preparing cocktails is something elementary in Paradiso;
What’s more, its presentation is full of creativity and sustainability. The extravagant glasses, the creation of utensils and coasters are made from single-use waste. Demonstrating the strong commitment of owners Giacomo Giannotti and Margarita Sader to environmental well-being. The content director of The World’s 50 Best Bar, Mark Sansom, has remarked this, taking into account the great work they do promoting sustainability.
The fact that this is the first time we have crowned a bar outside of New York or London as The World’s Best Bar is a testament to Paradiso’s enormous achievements. The win is a credit to the cocktail programme. Its sustainable ethos, its work in the global bar community and its brilliant fun.
The list of the 50 Best Bars this 2022 with Paradiso at the top. New for the first time, bars from the cities of Florence, Lisbon and Naples have made it into the 50 Best.
Paradiso was not the only Catalan cocktail bar to make it into the top 3 of The World’s Best Bar. Sips joined it on the podium in third place, and was awarded the special Nikka Highest Climber prize, having climbed 34 places. In addition, Two Schmucks took seventh place, and a few places further down, in 15th place, Salmon Guru, a cocktail bar from Madrid, also made it to the top.
Looking beyond our borders, New York is still in the lead with six bars in the list. Including two in the top 10: Double Chicken Please and Katana Kitten. As for the best in each continent, Licorería Limantour tops the list in North America, while Alquímico tops the list in the south. On the other side of the ocean, Jigger and Pony from Singapore leads Asia, and Dubai with Zuma is the leader in the Middle East. Finishing with Maybe Sammy conquering from Sydney in Oceania.
