Compact, of white crystal texture or with veining of different colors. Marble is a rock that, for its properties, has been used over time as a construction and sculpture material. However, in recent times, several designers dare to use it for the production of all kinds of accessories: bags, bracelets, cufflinks, but also cases for iPhone or notebooks. Marble is now emerging as a safe proposal regarding fashion trends for the upcoming collections of major brands.
One example is the Italian company 53.0, who has made designers of such prestigious firms as the German one Aigner and the Italian Salvatore Ferregamo (whose founder revolutionized Hollywood with his shoes in the 20s) lose their heads for this material.
The company 53.0 was born two years ago as a spin-off of a family company dedicated to the manufacture of furniture and marble floors. Until the visionary Manuela Falorni decided to use the precise machinery available to them to create delicate and smaller objects. It was then when the creative director of Aigner, Christian Beck, had the brilliant inspiration to use this material in some of his designs.
This new use of marble is only the beginning. Until now, it had never been used in fashion because it is considered a heavy and difficult material to carry. However, cut finely and uniformly with a thickness of two or three millimeters, it becomes lighter and easy to work with to create small objects, such as buttons that are used to beautify not only clothes, but also accessories like shoes, bags or belts. A world of possibilities opened for both designers and fashion lovers.
Another sample of this upward trend is the case of the company of high–end accessories Foundry & Co. It represents the great ideals of fashion translated into jewellery design and offers a variety of pieces carefully designed and focused on a sophisticated woman, strong and elegant who expresses herself through her individual tastes. Foundry & Co adds now the trend with delicate pendants in marble.
Analog Watch Co., offers, meanwhile, original creations that are, in essence, fine marble sculptures for the wrist. Dedicated exclusively to the design of watches, it is notable for the beauty of its designs based on simplicity and reuse of unique materials inspired by nature.
But not only the classic accessories bet on marble, and a sample of this is the work of Mikol, a firm located in San Francisco who dares with cfflinks and hair designs, but also cases for iPhone or notebooks. Its design is characterized by the details carefully worked where this stone is clearly the protagonist.
Moreover, if the marble has made designers fall in love for its natural colors and its special veins that give an exquisite elegance to the designs, other materials such as onyx and agate are beginning to be demanded for big firms because their brightness and transparency makes accessories to be seen as part of the highest jewellery. At least, its manufacturing costs and the small scale production make their price resembles to that of real gems.
In Horse Magazine, we are expectantly to see how these trends evolve, particularly marble, which already seems to have found a clear path. Particularly in our magazine, we love the beauty of these materials and the innovation represented in the world of fashion design.
