For a few years now, the fashion world has been betting on weddings and crossovers. The last few seasons have been marked by the trend of mixing luxury with comfort.
We recommend 5 collaborations that will set the trend in 2021:
Maison Margiela x Reebok
Classic Leather Tabi is the name given to the new model of sneakers created by the prestigious French brand and the sports brand. It is a mix of the most emblematic models of both houses: the Classic Leather by Reebok fused with the Tabi boots by Maison Margiela.
The man in charge of bringing this new design to life was John Galliano, creative director of the French house. This new model has unleashed the networks for its eccentricity and creativity. The trainers have attracted a lot of attention for their split toe, a characteristic detail of the Tabi boots, which the brand presented in one of its spring-summer 1989 fashion shows, and which already had the masses going wild back then. This unusual pattern gives the model a cool, original look. In this way, it manages to perfectly capture the fusion between haute couture and streetwear;
Galliano has opted for the ‘Bianchetto’ technique, a classic of the ‘Maison’, to give the trainer a sporty and worn-out touch, with a revamped look. These, as the French fashion house says, “are made in nappa leather with classic laces, both logos on the tongue, fabric lining and EVA sole”.
Opening Ceremony x Vans
Opening Ceremony and Vans have teamed up once again, this time to present their first world collection of footwear, fashion and accessories.
This capsule collection features the iconic Vans checkerboard print reinvented with abstract snake and leopard prints. These are the protagonists of a whole repertoire of garments, such as the classic Vans ‘Authentic’ model, the tracksuit jacket – designed with a front zip, trench-style buttons and hood -, the trousers – with a ‘B&W’ leopard print and a loose fit, or the matching bag with the same design as both garments. All 4 outfits are accompanied by a rubber patch with the Vans x OC logo.
In addition, the founders of Opening Ceremony have also created a second line of ‘Vans Authentic’ with a new graphic approach in two colourways: blueberry blue and orchid. The design features a quilted texture combined with decorative stitching and the woven patch on the back of the shoe with the Opening Ceremony and Vans Off The Wall logo.
Humberto Leon, Opening Ceremony’s creative director, talks about the new collaboration with Vans:
“Vans has been our creative partner for a very long time, so we are delighted to be able to collaborate with the brand once again and offer new versions of the iconic print this season.
The two fashion brands have been teaming up for various collaborations since 2014. This new spring 2021 collection went on sale on 19 February.
Stella McCartney x Adidas
‘FuturePlayground‘. That’s the name of the new Spring-Summer 2021 collaboration between Stella Mc Cartney and Adidas.
This collection goes beyond fashion, it is an environmental awareness campaign, manifested through garments made with ecological materials such as:‘Prime Green‘ and ‘Prime Blue’, whose aim is to reduce polyester. This fusion of activism, sportswear and high fashion offers a comprehensive range of cutting-edge designs, including trousers, T-shirts, leggings and tracksuits, and accessories such as a running backpackrunning backpack.
The garments in the collection, as both firms have explained, have been made with Adidas ‘Ready’ technology, which helps to improve performance under any weather conditions and have included breathable and elastic fabrics, to release sweat from the skin and make the fabric adapt perfectly to the body. All designs feature innovative, bold prints and eye-catching colours;
The collection was photographed in 3 different cities: Tokyo, London and New York. That’s why the campaign has three creative directors: Japanese artist Monika Mogi, filmmaker Netti Hurley and Anna Pollack. One of the protagonists to represent the purpose of the campaign has been Lourdes León. Activists, artists and pioneers of the new generations have also been presented to stage the collection.
Coach x Champion
Coach and Champion have launched a limited edition collection for spring 2021. They say there’s strength in numbers and these two American icons have teamed up to create a sporty yet elegant style, combining Coach’s refined style with Champion’s athletic personality;
The result is a sporty basics line with everyday garments that are both comfy and luxurious. The collection includes everything from T-shirts and joggers to accessories such as bags and fanny packs. The contrast of this fusion is perfectly captured in the construction of the garments, as they combine Champion’s sporty ‘Reverse Weave’ fabric with luxurious materials such as leather or fur. The classic pieces of both fashion brands have been reinvented with a new graphic design and have included an exclusive logo with the “C” of both brands.
Stuart Vevers, creative director of Coach, explains the reason for the collaboration:
“I was inspired by the idea of elevating sportswear silhouettes by combining our iconic symbols in a way that feels fresh, youthful and immediate.”
The stars of this campaign are the famous stars of TikTok Wisdom Kaye, Maha Gondal and Jeffrey Tung, along with model Paloma Elsesser. They have revolutionised the networks with a series of challenges that they have launched on TikTok under the name ‘How to Coach a Champion’. The photographer who has portrayed this new collection has been Alessandro Simonetti;
Noah x Barbour
Noah and Barbour continue last year’s collaboration with a new capsule collection for SS21. It features new designs of iconic 1980s Barbour jackets in ‘Paisley’ and Zebra prints, adding a youthful feel.
Brendon Babenzien, creative director of Noah talks about the collaboration with Barbour:
“Barbour has always stood for quality clothing, that’s why we love Barbour, they represent the best in quality and style, a combination you don’t often find”.
The collection includes two different models of jackets and accessories with bold, vibrant prints such as backpacks, sports caps and the popular ‘bucket hats’. The first jacket features a ‘animal print’ of Zebra and is inspired by Barbour’s iconic Bedale jacket, originally made for equestrian use. The second is styled after the British luxury brand’s classic Beaufort jacket, reworked with a PaiselyPaiselyprint. Both prints are used for the accessory designs. This series of garments is the second new collaboration between the two companies.
