London is always a starting point when we talk about Art. It’s undeniable how it is one of the leaders in the fashion, art, design and music industries, among many others. It is only for those looking for the coolest trends in the world.
Strolling through Covent Garden, the Tate museum, the National Gallery or any of the prestigious cultural locations in London is synonymous of success. But London offers so much more…
The Serpentine Galleries Park Night doesn’t need an introduction. It’s an event that crowns the excellency of art, poetry, music, cinema and literature. Every year it opens its stage in an idillic surrounding, between Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, with an impressive pavilion the public can visit from June to October.
One of the main accomplishments of the Serpentine Galleries Park Night is to allow access to new talents which will have the opportunity to demonstrate their work in the artistic and creative environment with a guaranteed nacional and international expansion.
Its an iterate scene where the best creations of the moment meet. Consecrated architects such as Zaha Hadid were there years back.
Inspired in Oscar Wilde’s “Shelfish Giant’s Castle“, this year it has fallen on chilean architect Smiljan Radic and his translucent glass fiber hemisphere structure that rests over a bed of rough rocks which contrasts with the manorial style of the place.
COS, leading brand in the british fashion industry, is featured for the second consecutive time in this great event. In this occasion it is represented by two of its highest creative representatives: talented creative directors Karin Gustafsson and Martin Andersson.
Martin Andersson claims this kind of institutions are also a platform that allows young artists and creators such as him and Karin can show their work as a display in an exceptional environment. He declares himself as an unconditional fan of Bauhaus design, so he understands perfectly how important fashion is, through the conceptualism of interior design.
Karin Gustafsoon and Martin Andersoon get inspired in diverse sources for their creations, from natural surroundings, great photographers such as John Pawson or designers from the likes of Brenda Austin. Martin claims one of his most important sources are all the traveling he does, which he believes is essential when it comes to start working.
The result for this season are clean cut pieces, smooth silhouettes and unstructured finishings. One of this winter’s menswear must haves will be a minimal cape coat, made with wool and with lapels.
Both Karin and Martin maintain they will keep exploring the word of art and design along with COS, developing projects which are already on their way, such as an installation in the japanese design studio Nendo, at Milano’s Mobile Salon. Meanwhile, they will also reinforce their relationship with New York’s Arte Frieze fair, and will be working in new conceptual stagings in Al’s Grand Hotel.
We asked about what a label like COS thought of the lifestyle in cities such as Barcelona or Madrid, and there was an immediate connection. They identify with our positive mentality, interest in art, design and architecture, which are also inspiring sources. And, also, of course, our gastronomy.
Behind every success there’s hard work, and an identity stamp oneself must find in order to awaken the interest of giants. And that’s what Karin and Martin know so well.
