The new Suarez collection is inspired by Inside the Labyrinth, the cult film created by Jim Henson and released in 1986. A series of 21 pieces in white gold, with Art Nouveau aesthetics and diamonds as protagonists.
The film has become an icon of cinema. Not so much for its plot, of fantastic genre, but rather for its cast and soundtrack (among the leading actors was David Bowie, author of several of the songs) and, above all, for the aesthetics of its scenery. It is precisely its scenery that has inspired the Suarez creative team to create this collection. This is how Gabriel Suárez, the brand’s creative director, explains it:
It is a subtle homage to a cult film for an entire generation. No one would expect such delicate jewels from a work like Inside the Labyrinth.
The collection is inspired by the set design of Inside the Labyrinth.
The inspiration for this collection comes from a very specific scene, the dance scene. With a young Jennifer Connelly dressed in a princely white dress and surrounded by Venetian masks, candles and crystals. A very feminine scenario that serves as a starting point for the creation of the jewels of this special collection.
Since the creation of Suarez in 1943, Art Déco and its geometric and linear shapes have been its main inspiration. The Labyrinth collection is the first with which the firm dares to Art Nouveau. A current that, at the time, gave way to a young, modern and free art and that for Suarez now means a new way of using diamonds, more conceptual and renewed.
The result? Lightweight jewelry that includes Art Nouveau motifs: curved shapes, organic silhouettes and plant motifs. The materials are another of the points of union. Each of the pieces in the collection has been made in white gold and diamonds in different sizes.
Art nouveau inspired earrings, pendants and rings
The inspiration in the film is more or less evident depending on the pieces. The chandelier earrings are inspired by the ones Jennifer Connelly wears in the scene. While the others have been created, for the most part, following the Art Nouveau aesthetic of the film but without explicit references.
The most special jewel of the new Suarez collection is one of its pendants with a large sapphire as protagonist. It is also the most ostentatious, as the rest of the pieces follow a line of light, feminine and very delicate shapes.
At the technical level, the detachable ring stands out. It is a thin inner piece, which can be worn alone, to which an outer sheath is crimped. Two jewels in a single piece that stands out for its versatility.
Najwa Nimri is the image of the collection.
Najwa Nimri has been chosen as Laberinto’s ambassador. A decision that follows the line of the collection, its renewing air and the trail of fantasy that accompanies it. An aesthetic that has also been maintained in the campaign images.
Diamonds are the main protagonists of Suarez’s new collection, Labyrinth, which can be purchased in its online store or in any of its boutiques.
