Guerlain is recognized as a brand committed to sustainability, and the defense of bees is one of its pillars. The relationship between the French firm and bees is indissoluble and is reinforced each year with new actions and launches
This May 20th marks World Bee Day, and Guerlain commemorates it in style by commissioning artist Céline Cléron to create a special edition of the Advanced Youth Watery Oil within the Abeille Royale line. This product harnesses the power of “Blackbee Repair” technology to repair skin damage 9 times faster while combining the potency of a serum, the richness of an oil, and the lightness of a lotion. With 5 ingredients derived from bees, it knows how to dress the skin to reveal its most youthful, densified, and luminous version.
Bees are not only the emblem of Guerlain on a decorative level but also part of its cosmetic formulas. Among these are: pure black bee honey from Ouessant, which has an extraordinary phytochemical balance, and heather, which is especially rich in antioxidant polyphenols; Corsican honey, harvested by beekeeper Alain Valentini, a Guerlain partner, has a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) certification and is enriched with essential trace elements for the skin. In addition to honey, propolis is used, a substance that bees obtain from tree bark and then process in the hive, mixing it with their wax to turn it into an “antibiotic”; it contains flavonoids and is rich in provitamin A and vitamin B3. It stands out for its anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties and is a great collagen booster.
Initiatives by Guerlain to commemorate Bee Day
The French firm will donate 20% of sales made from May 20th to 22nd, 2023, in-store or on guerlain.com, to the Guerlain for Bees Conservation Program, including sales of the limited edition Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil, redesigned for the occasion by French artist Céline Cléron.
For 2023, Guerlain has called on the Maison’s ambassadors to take action, urging them to join forces in raising awareness about protecting bees for future generations. On May 20th, World Bee Day, a special date will see its ambassadors, including Angelina Jolie, Gina Alice, Karen Wazen, Blanca Suárez, Antonela Roccuzzo, and Mirei Kiritani, leading Bee School sessions. Through this initiative, they will visit primary schools worldwide to raise awareness among children about the vital importance of this species and the importance of protecting it.
Actions by Guerlain for bee protection
Over the years, Guerlain has been part of various initiatives and actions for the preservation of bees and the environment. The first of these initiatives began in 2011 when it started actively collaborating with the Black Brittany Bee Association of the Island of Ouessant (ACANB). This collaboration is based on two main pillars: financial support and support in communication and research.
It is also worth noting that nationally, in October 2022, Guerlain joined LG Electronics and El Rincón de la Abeja in the Smart Green Bees project to fight for the recovery of the Iberian bee population on the peninsula, with the aim of introducing 47 million bees in all its corners.
In 2021, the Maison and UNESCO partnered with the OFA (Organization for Action) and Angelina Jolie to kick-start the “Women for Bees” program, which aims to train new female beekeepers in UNESCO biosphere reserves.
