Danish designer, Felicia Arvid, opens her doors to show us her innovative approach to sustainable design.

With a career that started in fashion and evolved into product design, Felicia discusses how she redefines the functionality of acoustic panels and other design pieces. The designer is an example of how creativity and sustainability can be easily aligned.

The pursuit of harmony in design

Felicia Arvid brings sustainability to the world of product design and architecture, with a particular focus on acoustic panels. Her career began in fashion, but she quickly broadened her vision and moved into product design after studying architecture at the Glasgow School of Art. This fusion of disciplines is reflected in her creative approach, as she tries to integrate all aspects of the pieces, from the original materials, their aesthetics and functionality.

I always seek to achieve a synthesis between form, material, construction and function, says the designer.

One of his most notable creations is the Klipper acoustic panel, designed for the Caimi Brevetti brand, which was his first industrialised design. This panel was not only successful in terms of production, but was also recognised with the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award in 2022.

Klipper was very important in my young career, and my collaboration with Cami will always be very special to me, explains Felicia.

Sustainability is an essential principle in her creative process, and the designer approaches it with a clear vision. Although it can be a challenge, it often becomes her source of inspiration, and she tries to embrace the circular economy during her designs.

The process of experimenting with materials is vital to Felicia, as she explores the limits of each one in order to make the most of them when designing.

Experimenting with materials can sometimes reveal unexpected aspects that inspire shapes or constructions – adds the designer.

In this way, he works with materials such as wood, metal or recycled fabrics, enhancing their properties. The fact of exploring allows him to create innovative pieces that, perhaps, could not have been created through an analytical process.

When creativity hugs sustainability

Felicia Arvid has found in textiles a unique medium to create furniture and panels that stand out for their design and respect for the environment. The designer shapes her pieces through pleating and draping, always aiming for the highest quality and durability. As Arvid has mentioned to us, the challenge of sustainability can become a source of inspiration, and makes us reflect on how sustainable design can maintain an optimal future.
