Warm colors, monochromatic looks, vibrant prints, plaids… What can we expect from the fall-winter season in terms of color trends? At Horse, we summarize the key points to “paint” your outfits for the coming months.
Monochromatic Looks
If there is one trend in terms of colors for the fall-winter season, it is monochromatism. Looks created from head to toe following the same tone or color palette. Toasty colors predominate: earth tones, beige, mustard… which return year after year to the winter runways.
This predominance of warm colors continues with outfits in pastel pink and red. The muted pink gives a winter princess vibe to the designs, which is accentuated by other elements such as airy fabrics, floral embroidery, transparencies, and fur coats and stoles.
Completely opposite is the effect produced by vibrant reds, whether as a single color or combined with black. A symbol of timeless elegance, red is the color of the strong woman par excellence.
Bold and Eye-Catching Prints
In contrast to the warm tones and monochromatic ensembles, when designers embrace prints, they go all out. Colorful and striking patterns take center stage. For Dolce & Gabbana and Missoni, the coats dominate the outfit and become the focal point, with Dolce & Gabbana even daring to use a patchwork effect. Meanwhile, Moschino and Miu Miu opt for complete suits.
Don’t Be Afraid to Combine Them. Different geometric shapes, checks mixed with flowers and other prints, all part of the same ensemble. Bold print mixes let the imagination run wild. Fashion is fun, and you shouldn’t be afraid to play with it.
Checks, Flowers, and Animal Print as Star Patterns
If there are three prints that have dominated fall-winter designs, they are checks, flowers, and leopard. Checks align with the trendy tweed and tartan fabrics for this season, a retro style that Gucci takes to its fullest expression.
Flowers, usually reserved for spring and summer, have filled the runways with color and texture. Chanel adds small three-dimensional details, Versace and Fendi go for more elaborate embroidery, while Dolce & Gabbana opts for a lingerie look with a considerably large print. There are countless options to draw inspiration from, ensuring that floral prints are not confined to spring.
Lastly, leopard print. It seems you can’t have a wardrobe without a leopard coat or dress for the upcoming winter. Last season, we saw this print on jackets and coats, but this fall-winter it can be found on an even wider range of garments and fabrics. Dolce & Gabbana takes it further, turning their models into actual plush toys, dressed head-to-toe in soft fur garments with the animal’s snout and ears peeking out. Another way to reinvent animal print and fur garments.
