What to do in Sitges?

Sitges has endless possibilities to enjoy all kinds of activities. From gastronomic offers, cultural visits, endless beaches, places to disconnect and parties that last all night.

Sitges has all kinds of beaches; from family, urban, small coves to LGTBI environment. In total it has 17 km of coastline and 26 beaches, creating a natural Mediterranean space  and maritime and surrounded by the nature of the Garraf Park.

Among the most outstanding beaches are the Platja de Aiguadolç, quiet and familiar, the Platja Balmins between Port d’Aiguadolç and the Old Town a privileged and urbanite location. The platja Bassa Rodona and Platja de l’Home Mort, for the LGTBI public. Cala Ginesta next to the port and Cala Morisca, one of the most emblematic of Sitges, where swimsuits are optional.

Open to the public since 1933, it houses great works of painting, drawing, sculpture, wrought iron, ceramics, glass… both by Rusiñol himself and other artists such as Fondevila, Zuloaga, Casas or Mas.

Not only is it an event to go to and come back to, but it is a hymn to freedom and diversity characteristic of Sitges, with a very special, fun and party atmosphere.

Feast of the Virgen del Carmen

Now that summer is here, the patron saint of sailors arrives and every 16 July she receives floral offerings from all over the world, it is a spectacle to see and a perfect way to get to know a very local and special atmosphere like that of Sitges.

And of course, the long-awaited Sitges festival, held on August 23rd and 24th. It mixes a local and very own atmosphere with the tourist touch characteristic of the town. Terramar Gardens: A green lung in front of the sea

The Terramar Gardens, located between the sea and the golf courses, is a unique and very diverse space. They were designed in 1920 by Miquel Utrillo, and these nineteenth-century gardens are a natural space to enjoy plans with family, friends or alone for this summer. It has facilities that are adapted to sports and leisure activities, has areas where you can have a picnic, play different games like zip lines or a soccer field or disconnect in an area of greenery and ponds.

Gastronomy in Sitges

The typical gastronomy of the town stands out the sitgetana rice, a recipe of the nineteenth century that fishermen prepared in the high seas. Another autochthonous dish is the xató (winter dish) which is made with endive, shredded cod, tuna, anchovies and arbequins. But the most special touch is its sauce: it is made with toasted almonds and hazelnuts, garlic, chorizo peppers, fried bread, oil, vinegar and salt. It is a real delicacy that is also made in Vilanova i la Geltrú, El Vendrell, Calafell and Vilafranca del Penedés, giving rise to the famous Ruta del Xató..

Also typical are the tapas made at the time, rice dishes in the wide range of restaurants and beach bars in front of the sea, accompanied by the wine La Malvasía a sweet golden wine that accompanies lunches and dinners in local restaurants.

Another of the most famous dishes is a typical dish of one of the most important festivities in Sitges: Carnival. It is traditionally eaten on “Dijous gras”, accompanied by omelettes of butifarra d’ou, artichoke and “Seques” (white beans).
