Digitally immersed in the mind of Dalí at l’IDEAL Barcelona, comes the exhibition Dalí Cibernètic. An innovative universe that connects technologies with the poetic soul of the Catalan artist. A total duration of 90 minutes, 15 of which are experienced in virtual reality;

The works of Salvador Dalí will once again be a meeting point at the Centre d’Arts Digitals IDEAL. Opening on 20 September with the exhibition Dalí cibernètic. But on this occasion, the exhibition will offer visitors a totally digital journey. Experiencing, with freedom of movement, the metaverse. In the space of 2000 square metres, Dalí’s surreal and particular world will be revealed. It will be experienced through large projections, holograms, artificial intelligence and virtual reality. The latter as an element that will give the visit the necessary magic that will transport visitors to a customisable universe;

Wearing the characteristic VR glasses, each visitor will have the opportunity to adapt their digital avatar, and walk, together with their companions, inside the stories created by the Catalan artist. In this way, the surrealist universe that can be seen on the canvases can be experienced inside them. A journey that will allow immersion into the sea, the sky, the desert and the voidJordi Sellas, director of the IDEAL Centre, declared that, once they set out to open IDEAL, their main objective was to bring an immersive experience on a par with Dalí himself. And so, they have been working to be able to offer it. Connecting the digital world with the creations of the Catalan artist. Seven rooms that will reveal his obsessions with science. Optical illusions, DNA, fourth dimension, and more.

It is surprising to discover testimonies of his in the 60s and 70s where he anticipates today’s future without having experienced it. His mind was much more advanced than the era in which he found himself. And that was the spark we needed to start an attractive project that delighted the Fundació Gala – Salvador Dalí – Jordi Sellas.

The Fundació Gala acknowledged that the project presented was very well documented, as a great deal of information and photographs had been collected. Moreover, this connection between the artist and science was something very innovative and relevant. This connection between art and technology is not something new from a couple of years ago. Salvador Dalí himself, in the 1950s, already declared that his brain was totally electronic. And he was not afraid to start using the first computers that appeared. Meanwhile, during an interview in Paris in 1981, he commented that art would end up being cybernetic, using a very strange word at the time. He was very convinced that in the future there would be changes, but impossible to imagine at the time. One of Dalí’s characteristics was his capacity for anticipation.

Montse Aguer, Director of the Fundació Gala Dalí museums, emphasised the great innovation of the proposal. She commented that the exhibition complements a visit to the museums in person.

In the same way as the Frida Kahlo The Life of a Myth exhibition, the immersive experience offers a different view of the works.  Allowing you to get closer to many of her famous works. Observing on a large scale his completion and techniques when creating. In order to go beyond the limits of reality, Dalí was a great promoter in the search for new languages of expression. Thetwo-dimensional was too small for him, hence his interest in going further. IDEAL recognises that he would coexist perfectly with technology. For since the middle of the last century he had already been talking about them. The IDEAL team, together with the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, have been working in detail on the preparation of the works on display. Cataloguing the contents that will be shown throughout the immersion. They have also discovered unpublished documentation on the artist. In this way, they guarantee an activity with a high level of innovation and curiosity.
