Spring has arrived and with it the festival of the year, Coachella. Two weekends that bring together all the ingredients to create the most Instagrammable event. Sunny California, a kilometre-long line-up with artists of the stature of Beyonce, a multitude of activities and parallel artistic exhibitions as a backdrop and the highest concentration of celebrities and influencers per square metre. .

From Friday 13 to Sunday 15 and from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 April, attendees were able to enjoy The Weekend on Fridays, Beyonce on Saturdays and Eminem on Sundays, respectively. Because yes, both weekends feature the same artists. SZA, Kygo, St. Vincent, HAIM, alt-J, M0, Cardi B, Odesza, David Byrne, Vince Staples, Soulwax and Portugal are just some of the many artists who performed at the festival in this last edition.

The undisputed star who has made all the front pages? Beyonce. The success has been such that after her performances, the networks have even proposed a name change for Coachella in honour of the great pop diva: Beychella. The singer, who made history by becoming the first black woman to headline the festival, surprised in every way.

She took to the stage with her husband Jay Z, her sister Solange Knowles and J Balvin as guests. He also brought Destiny’s Child back together for the occasion. Her costumes, as well as those of the dancers and musicians in the show, were designed especially for the occasion by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, who, in an absolute demonstration of creativity, turned Queen B into an Egyptian queen. .

Coachella: music, fashion and art

In addition to music, Coachella offers many other things to its attendees. Among them, art and fashion, lots of fashion. This year the art installations distributed around the venue have been worthy competitors of the most extravagant outfits of the celebrities.

The Third World Space Station by Simón Vega and Spectra by Newsubstance.

These are just two examples of the creations that could be seen at the Californian festival. The Third World Space Station, by Simón Vega, is a gigantic sculpture (45 metres long, 25 metres wide and 15 metres high). It is based on the Soviet Mir station and reflects on the effects of the Cold War in Central America. While the idea of Spectra, by Newsubstance,  is based on creating a spiral in which to immerse oneself in the 360 degree views of Coachella through a journey of light and colour from which to observe the hustle and bustle outside.

A creativity that fits in with the growing prominence of fashion during the festival, which has become one of the biggest showcases of style and summer trends. The entire Coachella business complex is estimated to be worth more than 500 million euros. Almost half of these have not been produced inside the venue, but have been generated at the numerous parties that the brands organise as a complement with some of the most prominent guests. The most talked-about of 2018 was the Revolve party.

From the street style looks that will set the trend, to the musical performances, Beyoncé, the parties, to the art installations. This is a brief overview of what Coachella 2018 has been like.
