Start a new year in the Chinese horoscope with the water tiger, a symbol of strength and courage.
The Chinese New Year, dedicated to the water tiger, will officially begin on 1 February 2022 and will end on 21 January 2023. The lucky colours for this year are cerulean blue, mint green, fire red and imperial yellow. The flowers are yellow lily and cineraria. Those born in 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022… belong to the year of the water tiger…
Several brands have also wanted to celebrate the beginning of the Chinese New Year and have launched collections to commemorate this animal and all its meanings.
The image of the tiger and its good-luck colours on garments
Marni and Venezuelan artist Magdalena Suarez Frimkess transform art into fashion to celebrate the lunar new year. A very distinctive colour palette – turquoise blue, jade green, aquamarine, ruby and burgundy – is the backdrop for the prints and drawings made by Frimkess. This collection is mostly based on ready-to-wear with Frimkess’ signature naïve tiger print.
Kenzo brings out the The Year of the Tiger capsule collection. Based on loose-fitting, relaxed-fit garments in shades of blue, red and yellow. It is available for both men and women and features T-shirts, skirts, jackets and trainers, among others.
Gucci also joins in the celebration of the Chinese New Year with its Gucci Tiger collection, made up of ready-to-wear garments with different versions of the tiger, a very important animal for the brand. Using turquoise blue, green, red, pink and white colours, the brand creates a collection for both women and men that perfectly captures the essence of the tiger.
Actions that go beyond fashion
Prada is launching a new campaign under the name Action in the Year of the Tiger. The editorial, starring actress Chun Xia and actor and singer Li Yifeng, aims to put the spotlight on the preservation of the tiger. It is one of the animals at high risk of extinction and for this reason the brand will make a donation to the Walking With Tiger and Leopard programme.
Prada is also organising a competition for art school students under the age of 30. They are invited to create their own interpretation of the tiger. The winning designs will be part of a project that will run through 2022.
Stella McCartney celebrates the Chinese New Year with an exclusive collection dedicated to the animal. The garments are made from organic cotton and cruelty-free accessories, with prints created by artist Albert Seleznyov, who uses the airbrush painting technique. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of caring for these animals.
Accessories to complete the look and celebrate the new year
Montblanc welcomes the new lunar year with a new capsule collection for men and women. The distinctive Meisterstück leather goods have been redesigned with an animal-inspired print motif, subtle red detailing and a new interpretation of the brand’s logo.
