The iconic Casa Batlló and the Sónar festival team up to present THE CUBE, an artistic and experimental installation created by Smith and Lyall, the artistic directors of The Chemical Brothers.
Barcelona is getting ready to host one of the most important cultural events of the year: the Sónar festival. From 13 to 15 June, several venues in the city will once again vibrate to the rhythm of electronic music, but also to the rhythm of art and creativity in all its forms.
As part of its extensive programme of activities, Sónar has collaborated with the emblematic Casa Batlló for this 31st edition. Together they have prepared the artistic and experimental installation THE CUBE, a world-leading audiovisual space with reworked music by The Chemical Brothers.
What we will see in THE CUBE
THE CUBE can be seen in the basement of the iconic Gaudí building from 24 May and features 360º visuals by Smith and Lyall, the artistic directors of The Chemical Brothers’ shows. They explain the experience: “We are delighted to premiere Music:Response at Casa Batlló because Gaudí illustrates the freedom of expression we aspire to. Gaudí created fantasy worlds with his buildings, with their own rules and logic. They are immersive environments in which there is a sense of being outside the normal world, an escape from reality into the sublime. The Chemical Brothers‘ universe shares this same spirit and has also become a self-contained world”.
In short, THE CUBE is a new narrative for audiovisual experiences and has been built with pixels, high-end audio and contributions from artists, creators and engineers. A collaboration in which the creativity and musical curatorship of Sónar is mixed with the living museum of Casa Batlló, which in recent years has made a strong commitment to innovation and digital art.
THE CUBE can be visited until 31 July, every day from 9pm.
