This summer, Biotherm will use art to give voice to the oceans. The voice we are talking about is led by Coco Capitán. The goal? To raise awareness about how climate change is threatening the health of the phytoplankton in our oceans, thus turning beauty into a change of color blue.
How do you breathe without the sea?
Biotherm’s collaboration with Coco Capitán aims to create a clear awareness about the lungs of our planet. It is urgently necessary to make a paradigm shift in our minds. This collaboration highlights the risks of climate change and the increasingly widespread problem of plastic.
Coco Capitán explains:
If we end our seas, the damage will not be limited to not being able to go sailing.
Artist Coco Capitán has been inspired by the iconic masterpiece of the 19th century, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. This wave represents the colossal wave that arises from the depths of the ocean and threatens three boats in Sagami Bay. This scene represents the great majestic power of the ocean. This whole story and its metaphor represent a change of discourse, transforming its violence into the singularity of the wave as an element that we must protect.
The three products that will help maintain a circular economy
The three products that arise from this collaboration: Life Plankton Elixir, Lait Corporel, and Aquapower Gel, are designed to highlight Biotherm’s commitment to the circular economy. The packaging of the products reflects perfectly the spirit of the campaign itself.
The regenerating serum Life Plakton Elixir: has its outer packaging made of 100% PCR cardboard. It eliminates the cellophane to minimize plastic packaging. It also uses 25% recycled glass to contribute to the cause.
The original anti-dryness body milk, Lait Corporel L’original: has a Coco’s corporate phrase, “how do u breathe without the sea?”, to remind of the importance of the cause on each cream jar. It also has outer packaging made of 100% PCR cardboard.
The hydrating gel for men, Aquapower Gel: is reinvented with a limited edition cardboard packaging which is made with 49% less plastic. It has a great feature, and that is that each package contains 20% recycled cardboard.
These are not the only Biotherm products that care about ocean health. The Solar Water Lover Sun Milk cream meets one of the most eco-credentialed standards for sunscreen products.
Preserving the blue lung of the planet
Phytoplankton is a very important element because it is the source of more than half of the earth’s oxygen, making the oceans the blue lung of the planet.
Guilio Bergamaschi, Global President of Biotherm, confesses:
We believe that science will save the world, but art will be the catalyst that brings people together to achieve it.
Phytoplankton is incredibly sensitive to changes and can regenerate if it has the right conditions. It is so important that it regenerates because millions of phytoplankton perform photosynthesis, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
Water lovers, the blue commitment
This program dedicates a large part of its efforts to raise awareness among its consumers about the environmental problems that plastic has in the waters. The initial goal of this initiative is to conserve the oceans.
To achieve this, they collaborate with artists, dancers, NGOs, activists, and cinematographers. In fact, last year, coinciding with World Oceans Day and together with director Julie Gautier, they presented this audiovisual piece “Breathing The Ocean,” in order to raise awareness about the role that phytoplankton plays in making the oceans the blue lung of our planet.
