Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup and Agbar have announced their partnership to promote sustainable solutions to address the current drought situation affecting Barcelona, as well as other territories.
As a Sustainability Partner, Agbar, the leading water management and environmental services company, will take action to enhance sustainability in the upcoming America’s Cup . Competing teams such as the Orient Express Racing Teamhave also adopted them. The competition will run from August to October 2024.
Because of low rainfall, water circulation is positioned as a key element in relieving pressure on water resources, particularly drinking water. To promote these uses in the right way, the teams competing in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup have been briefed to conserve water before and during the regatta. In addition, they have been detailed the importance of acting responsibly with the environment. For this, it is essential to work on solutions to keep it in good conditions.
Some teams have already introduced measures to reuse water. For example, the Orient Express Racing Team has joined the Grupo Saur, to boost saving. Considering the case of Catalonia, the community is suffering from a significant drought. Rainfall has become scarcer, and together with high temperatures, both in cold and hot periods, it is essential to reduce theenvironmental impact..
This was detailed by Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup Events, who expressed the importance of acting with respect and sustainability towards the venue hosting the next edition of the America’s Cup.
The partnership with Agbar is key to this and we look forward to forging a deep and mutually beneficial relationship with the company and its industry-leading professionals to further the ambitious sustainability goals we have set for the regatta. – says Dalton.
During the event, the company Agbar will carry out several actions in order to achieve the proposed objectives of sustainability. Among them, they will provide reclaimed water to significantly reduce water consumption. Its use will be for cleaning the vessels participating in the AC75, AC40 and support vessels. Also, they will measure the environmental impact through carbon and water footprints. As well as installing drinking water fountains throughout the event venue.
There are less than six months to go before the Port Vell kicks off the 37th edition of the America’s Cup in Barcelona. The activities will start on August 22, before the last preliminary regatta, until October 5 with the final of the competition. Until then, the teams are preparing to show their best versions, as they work to continue innovating in both competition and sustainability.
