This year’s trends are revisiting iconic styles from the 60s, 70s and 90s, renewed and combined. Also, there are new proposals such as surrealist sculptural pieces, here we show you what’s new.
The fashions are cyclical and some are timeless, they emerge, renew and set trends depending on the social contexts in which we find ourselves. For 2023 the trends will be varied: there will be renovations of iconic styles of the past and innovations that arouse the curiosity of many viewers..
1- A revamped gothic style with glamour
The gothic fashion was booming at the end of the 70s influenced by the literature and art of the time, today we see it again on the catwalks with great brands such as: Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace where the characteristic dark garments, lace, transparencies, chokers with black rhinestones or necklaces with crosses are once again setting a trend, although with a more sensual and glamorous twist..
2-The iconic fringes in all their versions
Fringes have marked a milestone in different eras, in the 1920s in the United States they were indispensable in party dresses, they were also present in the western style and in the hippie culture of the 1960s. This 2023 we will see them renewed combining thicknesses, textures, lengths and widths. Brands such as Michael Kors, Jacquemus and Versace will feature them in many of their garments.
3-3D sculptural pieces: a new paradigm
Since the Schiaparelli lions in the haute couture show, surrealism has been taking over the catwalks with 3D sculptural pieces inside the garments, such as: anthuriums in the case of Loewe, palm leaves in the case of Dion Lee and giant watermelons in the case of Area. An innovation with a modern vision that will be a clear trend for 2023, with objects that simulate reality on a large scale.
4-Collections with artistic narrative
Prints are part of the history of fashion, some designs are iconic and universal, others are lifelong classics. This season the designs that will appear on the garments will be mainly artistic and realistic: from renaissance works of art, photographic collages and prints with realistic figures. Fashion is art and in this case it is exemplified to perfection.
5-Volumes converging past and future
For this season, volumes will take the spectators’ attention, volumes that go beyond depth and width, extravagant and architectural structural volumes in many cases, that seek to attract all eyes. We will see them ranging from sustainable and geometric like those of Balmain to the ingenious and striking ones of Area. For this season they will be incorporated by mixing shapes, colours and materials to create memorable pieces.
6-A reinvented Animal Print
The animal print is a versatile and timeless style, for this 2023 we will find it with redesigns adapted to the season with mixes of lace and other prints, taking risks with bright colours outside the traditional ones, with sequins and glitter, with contrasts between different patterns and silhouettes, taking risks with bright colours outside the traditional ones, with sequins and glitter, with contrasts between different patterns and fluid silhouettes for different occasions. These designs have a sexy, authentic feel that is perfect for the spring season.
7-The space look: always a great success
In the 1960s metallic was in fashion thanks to the space fashion trend, some of the precursors of this fashion were the designers: Pierre Cardin and Paco Rabanne. This trend has been brought back in an avant-garde way. For this season the metallic look will be seen in its different variants, the colours: gold, silver, copper and purple will be the most used and will be worn mainly in total metallic looks that include jackets, baggy trousers and dresses with volumes accompanied by other textiles to create contrast.
8-A revamped total denim with infinite detailing
The denim is a fashion symbolthat has transcended all sorts of eras, from the Wild West, youth culture, rock and roll, hippie culture and again in the pop culture of the 2000s. The total denim is an icon, although each time it manages to reinvent itself and renew itself to create new models. For this season we will see it in unique circular shapes composing dresses, with mixes between corsets, dresses and jackets, and also with a whole repertoire of colours, from the most worn and light blues to the classic dark blue.
9-Feathers: a symbol of joy and elegance
The feathers are an iconic accessory of the 1920s, mainly representing the flappers known for being irreverent and going against social norms. Feathers represent elegance, joy and prosperity, today we can see them again on the catwalks, from vibrant colours to more neutral colours and in lower positions or covering almost the entire garment, we can also appreciate them more rigid creating figures and flowing to compose a skirt.
The trends for this spring will be versatile and for every taste, with colour mixes for the more extroverted and realistic prints.
